Thanks to the generous support of a Student Travel Award from the Design History Society, I was able to undertake a five-week research trip to Moscow, Russia, where I conducted archival research for my doctoral thesis, 'The Kino-khudozhnik and the Material Environment in Early Russian Fiction Film, c. 1907-1930'.

As part of my ongoing doctoral work, I am attempting to map-out and understand the shifting positions of design in postcolonial India. Crucially, a DHS Strategic Research Grant enabled me to visit Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay and National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad.

A fourteen-day research trip to two significant United States-based collections was made possible by the Design History Society's Student Travel Award. This visit allowed me to examine several rare Malay printed books and manuscripts, and consult several folders of missionary correspondence, lithographed, and typeset books.

The College Arts Association's 106th Annual Conference was held last month in Los Angeles. This year was the second year in which the Design History Society participated in the event as a CAA-affiliated society panel.
