This article explores three twentieth-century villas - Villa Tugendhat, Villa Müller and Villa Rothmayer - comparing their interiors, and the representations of these houses and the families living in them.

During a research period in Tokyo, I was able to study and gather materials for a significant case study regarding Korean and Japanese commercial art education by reviewing a collection of Japanese exhibition catalogues. I would like to thank the Design History Society once again for supporting the archival work essential for my studies.

I spent Valentine's Day 2017 in New York in anticipation of one of the largest international art history gatherings - the College Art Association Annual Conference - at which I would be co-chairing the Design History Society's inaugural panel as an affiliate society. This was a valuable opportunity to work with a larger, US-based organisation and promote the DHS internationally.

The weekend of 30 June-2 July 2017 saw Middlesbrough host the second edition of the bi-annual 'Dresserfest', a family-friendly and action packed celebration of the Victorian industrial designer Christopher Dresser (1834-1904).

The Design History Society Student Travel Award funded 7 days, 4 ferry journeys, 2 flights and numerous bus journeys in and around the Orkney and Shetland Islands, where I was able to study first-hand objects made by members of the Armed Forces during World War II.

With the generous support of the DHS Student Travel Award, I had the opportunity to visit Tokyo for a week in May 2017. The primary and secondary sources I collected during this trip will form the core evidence for my research on the identity of modern Japanese women during the interwar period.

I am in the third year of a PhD, studying design and business education for traditional artisans in India. The DHS Student Travel Award enabled me to conduct filming in one of my case study locations: Maheshwar, a small town in Madhya Pradesh state.
