Conference & Events

2 October 2022

The Design History Society is now looking for a host of its annual conference in 2024. The conference is a prestigious, international event for lively intellectual exchange, presentations of latest research and discussions of new approaches in design history.

The Design History Society welcomes proposals from individuals and institutions that support and engage in teaching and research of design history. Recent conferences have been hosted in New York (2018), Newcastle upon Tyne (2019) and Basel (2021) as a virtual event. The 2022 event in Izmir, Turkey, was the first annual hybrid conference, which will be followed by Matosinhos, Portugal in 2023. More information on past conferences can be found on the DHS website [https://www.designhistorysocie...].

This is an exciting opportunity for bringing your institution to the attention of the design history community. It also allows delegates to visit local collections and sites significant for the study of design and design history.

Application and assessment process:

Proposals for the 2024 conference using the DHS form should be based on current themes or perspectives on the cultures of design. Please refer to the Guidelines when preparing your proposal. To request the package, please email the DHS Administrator, Jenna Allsopp at designhistorysociety@gmail.com

To maximise intellectual interaction, we recognize the irreplaceable value of an in-person conference, but we invite applicants to commit to sustainability as much as possible. All applications will be evaluated by members of the executive committee of the Design History Society, which is committed to principles of equity, integrity and confidentiality in the treatments of all applications competing to host the Annual Conference.

Applications must be received by 8 February 2023.

Please email the DHS Conference Liaison Officer, Marta Filipova at m.filipova@phil.muni.cz, with any questions or queries regarding the application process.
