The online talk held by the Society of Design Arts and AIGA Baltimore with the co-editors of the special issue of the Journal of Design History Locating Design Exchanges in Latin America and the Caribbean, Livia Rezende (Brazil) and Patricia Lara-Betancourt (Colombia) can now be accessed online via this link. The event, supported by a Design History Society Outreach and Events Grant, can now be listened in English, Spanish and Portuguese!

The talk focused on what happens when researchers foreground Latin American and Caribbean agency in design, a proposition that underpins the JDH special issue. Guided by this challenge, Rezende and Lara-Betancourt proposed a new approach to the discourse on Latin American and Caribbean design and considered ways to decolonise and globalise the study of design history in and from that region.

AIGA Baltimore and SoDA member Raquel Castedo hosted this event, part of the virtual series created to promote the rich and plural histories of Latin American production in design. The event welcomed 62 participants from 15 different countries. We hope the recordings in these multiple languages help increase the impact of this invaluable discussion beyond an English speaking audience.
