The Design History Society is seeking to appoint a new Chair of the Executive Committee (Board of Trustees) to take office following the Annual General Meeting at the annual conference The Cost of Design, to be held at Northumbria University, 5-7 September 2019.

The Chair provides leadership and direction to the Executive Committee of the DHS. The Chair's key role is to enable the Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and to achieve the strategic aims of the Society. Nomination Process

Members of the DHS are invited to submit an application to be nominated for the role of Chair. Candidates should complete and return a nomination form (download link), together with a statement on their vision for the Society (maximum 1,000 words).

Nomination forms should be sent to Michaela Young, the DHS Administrator, via: designhistorysociety@gmail.com by 5pm, Friday 3 May 2019.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview on 21 June 2019 at 70 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EJ. The panel will comprise the Chair of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Design History, two Honorary Officers of the DHS Executive Committee (the Secretary and Treasurer), and one external specialist advisor. Following interviews, the panel will make their recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The nominee will then be proposed and seconded by two current DHS members for election at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 5 September 2019.

The outgoing Chair will offer a handover period and it is expected that the new appointee will fully take on the role on 1 January 2020.

All applications for nomination will be treated in strictest confidence.

The appointment will be made for an initial three years with the possibility to extend for a further two years.

Please note: nominees for the role of Chair must currently be, or be willing to become, a member of the Design History Society.
