Call for papers: DHS online symposium - Designing the Domestic: Innovation in the Home

The DHS invites proposal submissions from speakers worldwide for an online symposium dedicated to ‘Designing the Domestic: Innovation in the Home’. The aim of this event is to highlight innovative design objects throughout history and to consider how we shape objects and how they shape us in our domestic environments.

Each speaker will give a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation via Zoom on one object, followed by a group Q&A discussion. We encourage speakers to consider objects from any period of history and any country of origin.

Please submit a proposal of a maximum of 150 words in English, with a 100-word biography, via email to the DHS Administrator, Jenna Allsopp, (designhistorysociety@gmail.com) by 11:59pm BST on Monday 14th August 2023. The event will take place on Saturday 7th October, 2-4pm BST.

We welcome and encourage applications from a diverse range of speakers at any stage of their academic careers, covering a broad spectrum of design disciplines from anywhere in the globe. We also welcome works in progress.
