The constitution of The Association of Dress Historians (ADH) stipulates that the objective of the charity is the advancement of public knowledge and education in the history of dress and textiles. To that aim, a prize and an award have been established. They are as follows:


The Stella Mary Newton Prize

Background
In 1965, Stella Mary Newton founded the postgraduate MA course in the History of Dress at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. She taught the course for a decade and was influential in the academic study of dress history. The Stella Mary Newton Prize is awarded annually to the best undergraduate or postgraduate paper in dress history.

Prize
The prize includes a monetary award of £300, an invitation to speak at our annual New Research in Dress History Conference, and the opportunity to publish a 4000-word version of the winning paper in The Journal of Dress History, the peer-reviewed journal published on behalf of The Association of Dress Historians.

Eligibility
The prize is open to current or graduating undergraduates and postgraduate students, who are members of ADH.


The Association of Dress Historians Award

Background
This annual award is established to support those studying and/or working in the fields of dress and textile history. The award is open to any member of The Association of Dress Historians who is pursuing innovative research in dress history and/or who is advancing public knowledge and education in the history of dress and textiles.

Prize
The prize includes a monetary award of £300, an invitation to speak at our annual New Research in Dress History Conference, and the opportunity to publish a 4000-word article in The Journal of Dress History, the peer-reviewed journal published on behalf of The Association of Dress Historians.

Eligibility
The award is open to early career researchers, who are members of ADH.
