Communications officer, Design History Society
The communications officer serves on the executive committee to represent the interests of those studying the history of design at all levels of higher education.
Job Description
Key responsibilities:
• Administrator of the Society's website.
• Editor of the Society's website (through a content management system).
• Administrator and Editor of the Design History JISC electronic mailing list.
• Administrator of social networking pages on Facebook, etc.
• Editor of quarterly newsletter, with responsibilities including:
o Drafting plan of contents
o Liaising with authors
o Sourcing design historical relevant news and events
o Sub-editing articles
o Sourcing relevant imagery
o Laying out newsletter using DTP package
o Liaising with designers about artwork
o Proofing
o Management of distribution
• Responsible for all advertising and promotional activities for both the Society and for third parties wishing to promote to Society members.
• Ensuring visual identity coherence of all Design History Society communication material.
• Consulting with other Committee members about the promotion of individual activities of the Society.
• Needs some knowledge of print and web design, with basic HTML skills (for the website) as well as intermediary or advanced DTP skills. (Also needs a copy of InDesign and Photoshop to put together the newsletter).
Applicants are requested to fill in and submit the attached nomination form to the DHS secretary, Charlotte Nicklas (charlottenicklas@hotmail.com) by Monday, 23 January 2012. The new postholders will be selected by the DHS Executive Committee at the Executive Committee meeting on 28 January 2012. The Executive Committee meets four times a year, with the following meeting scheduled for April 2012.
