Strategic Research Grant: Post-Colonial Perspectives in Design History

The Design History Society is pleased to announce they are able to offer an additional Research Grant. This one-off grant responds to the theme of the Annual DHS conference 2013 in Ahmedabad, India, entitled 'Towards Global Histories of Design: Postcolonial Perspectives'. Successful applicants will be expected to submit their paper to the 2013 DHS conference. The Grant's theme is in line with the Society's aim to promote research activity in design history; it specifically seeks to continue the Society's work in globalising design history and to encourage and build on the academic commitment to post-colonial perspectives in our field. The deadline for applications is 16 November 2012.

The Grant

A total fund of £3,000 will be awarded. This sum is divided amongst several applications deemed of high merit, at the discretion of a judging panel drawn from the DHS Executive Committee. Parts of a request might be funded and others rejected. The total project budget may be of any size, but requests for funding should not exceed £1,000.

Eligibility

The Grant is open all undergraduates and postgraduate scholars enrolled at a University and to professional scholars in the field of design history. Scholars working anywhere in the world - whether independently or in the employ of an institution - are welcome to apply.

The Strategic Research Grant may be used towards the costs incurred for research and research trips, illustrations for publication, relevant costs for research-related special events or exhibitions. Unsuitable costs might include, but are not limited to: equipment, subsistence (food and drink), employment of other persons to conduct research, higher than standard class travel or accommodation, conference-related costs. Applicants are required to give as detailed a budget as possible, including a clear identification and itemization of proposed costs.
